The move is the latest in a series of company acquisitions in the project management industry, as players compete for top rankings in Google.
"You can no longer buy a $ 4.95 domain name from scratch, perform a little search engine optimization and immediately get to the top of the search engines," says Jason Westland, founder of Method123.com"
"The smartest move is to find a company that already rank highly for your relevant search terms and approach them to see if you can strike some kind of partnership. In our case, we wanted to create a new portal for web based project management software and the best performer online for the target keywords we were after was ProjectManager.com - it's an expensive process, but at least when your new site is live, you will perform better in the search engines than a brand new domain with zero page rank" says Westland.
ProjectManager.com is reputed to be the original founding website on the topic of Project Management. Created in 1994 by a US entrepreneur, it was designed for the purpose of enabling new Project Managers to seek employment opportunities. It then grew to become one of the most successful project management jobs sites on the web. More recently, the business was ranked highly by Google and today it is listed as the third most highly ranked site worldwide for the popular search terms "Project Manager".
"It just goes to show that if you want to quickly create a successful business, and gain an immediate online presence, then the process of acquiring a top performing site is worth it" says Westland. "If we had to create a new site from scratch, then we would have been 12 months getting to the bottom of the search engine listings. This way, we can release a new website within a shorter period of time and rank highly more quickly."
"You still have to do your normal search engine marketing, so it's not all roses" says Westland. "We have created an aggressive link building strategy, search engine optimization plan and partner recruitment strategy to help give us the best chance of success."
The new acquisition will be used to release a portal for online project management software. The site will be totally free and will enable project managers, trainers, consultants and teams to find software tools that help them to successfully deliver projects.
It's not the only free offering that Method123 provide to the project management community. They currently provide free project management templates and have a fast growing free project newsletter. With more than 90,000 unique readers and a total distribution of 250,000 readers in 200 countries, the newsletter helps project management professionals to improve their project management practices.
Method123 also provide the highly ranked project management methodology toolset called "MPMM". The latest acquisition is another move by Method123 to provide further value in the free project management tools space.
